I admit it, I’m obsessed with making my own baby shoes.

They’re so pricey in the stores and for what? My baby doesn’t need rubber soles and fancy fasteners–she’s a BABY, she can’t walk.

Sew Mama Sew featured these adorable orange cloth baby shoes from Jennifer Ladd, along with links to a bunch of DIY baby shoe tutorials. What a fantastic project to use those scraps up! I could definitely make them in less than an hour.  Now I just have to decide which fabric I’ll pick.

Mom! Where Are my Shoes?

And my homework? And my backpack? And my favorite shirt? And the Happy Meal toy I got when we went to McDonald’s with Grandma last summer? Maybe I should feel flattered that somehow my children think I know where everything is. Truth is, I don’t feel flattered. I have a number of other reactions when the questions begin that range from minor irritation if we’re not in a hurry to utter exasperation if we are already five minutes late.

Bonus Baby

Last night I did what I ordinarily do around eleven o’clock. I shut down my laptop computer and put it away, then closed the book I was reading and set it on the lamp stand next to the sofa. I brought my water glass and my wine glass into the kitchen and put them in the dishwasher. While my husband went outside to smoke his last cigarette for the evening, I climbed the stairs and readied myself for bed.
