Birthday Letters
My daughter is turning four in THREE WEEKS. It might as well be tomorrow, she can hardly contain herself.
In four years, I've managed to half-finish a baby book and categorize the roughly thirty books I SHOULD be ordering from Shutterfly in my head. In other words, I'm not doing a very good job keeping up on the "sentimental" side of parenting.
I have a birthday tradition though for both of my kids that makes me feel slightly less guilty about my lack of a photo book from Halloween 2011. Right around each of their birthdays I sit down and write them a letter. I tell them what they are like, funny stories about what they have done, how important they are to our family and how much we love them. And then I seal it up, write their name on it with the number they are turning next to it, and toss them in the back of the unfinished baby book.
It's a little time capsule for their future, and I can't wait for them to call me one day after they've finished reading them.
