Editors Note: We thought it would be fun to ask a few of our favorite blogging friends to recap their year. Today, Whitney Moss of RookieMoms.com (@rookiemoms) shares her year in review and a few of her favorite things.
Here are a few favorites that I must share:
Kid Related: Fake UGG boots from Target. My 2-year old daughter refuses to wear socks. Ever. Her pink Sherpa-lined boots are doing double duty as socks and shoes these days. And they were only $12!
Food Related: Trader Joe’s pizza dough and sauce. We call it “homemade” pizza, but it only takes a few minutes to prepare. I am obsessed with corn and zucchini on my pizza, so that’s the routine around here. Add a little fresh basil and loads of mozzarella cheese. Very yum.
Tech & Gadgets: We totally rely on our Comcast OnDemand. I use it for Exercise TV programming and my 5-year old can navigate all the menus to find Yo Gabba Gabba or Diego. (Full disclosure: My husband works for the company, but this product existed before he got there.)
Favorites from 2009:
Movie: I really wish I kept a list of movies I’ve seen. Perhaps that will be a resolution for 2010.
YouTube Video: I made a video of myself demonstrating how to make baby or toddler pants out of an old tshirt. It sounds crazy, but it’s gotten almost 7,000 views, so apparently I’m not the only one who likes this project.
This year in social networking...
Favorite Facebook status update (your own): “… is embarking on a major parenting milestone. Parking at Disneyland right now!”
Favorite tweet (your own): The one where I bragged about collecting 2500 diapers to donate to mothers in need!
Blogging in 2009
What did your favorite blogger teach you this year? Blogs that are consistent, that offer me eye candy and funny stories, always remind me that the reason Rookie Moms works is because Heather and I have something to say. In this day of “mommy blog mania” we need to remember that our blog is about what WE want to say, not what anyone else wants us to write about.
Favorite post of 2009 (your own): The birthday post I wrote for my 5-year old son.
Favorite photo of 2009 (your own):
This photo is my favorite because when I donated diapers to a women’s drop-in center in my own city, Safeway matched my donation. It showed me that the modest popularity of my blog enables me to do some really cool things. I went back to the women’s center with this carload of diapers.
What did you kick to the curb this year? I successfully deprived myself of sugar for two weeks. I lost weight, gained willpower, but ultimately decided that I enjoy dessert too much to make it a lifestyle.
Best vacation/weekend getaway of 2009: We went to Sonoma with friends whose kids are so well matched with ours that it was a truly easy trip. No wine tasting, though!
What did your kids teach you this year? My children are very musical and I am not, but being with them forces me to try. Now I write songs and beatbox on a regular basis.
What did your mom teach you this year? That Thanksgiving is worth the work.
