Sweet Alexis-Fighting food allergies, one cupcake at a time!
With school starting, kids and families are gearing up for the new year. I for one am excited for Tamra to start Kindergarten and Isara starting the second grade. I want them to be productive, happy and secure. I worry that sometimes they may feel left out or secluded–like all parents, we want them to be their own person, but also be happy and safe.
I was recently reminded in a school newsletter about children at school who have food allergies, with the school asking for families to take care in packing lunches and snacks without peanuts. It is so easy to reach for the peanut butter, but it’s important to be supportive of those families and children.
No one wants to be left out, especially a child. But that is exactly what happens to a child who has life threatening food allergies. They can’t eat all the same things we often take for granted. The pizza parties at school and the after-school potlucks. So how can we be more supportive? Knowledge, awareness and resources! Enter Sweet Alexis, a local bakery that provides allergy free baked goods for sale in shop and 24 hours online!

Owner, Michele Fellows, started this bakery for the life threatening concerns for her daughter Alexis. In fact Alexis had some close calls with death due to food allergies. As a result, she decided to take matters into her own hands and start Sweet Alexis (love the business name!) You can read the whole story here. Not only are all the treats delicious and dairy, egg and nut free, her business provides a wealth of information for caregivers looking for solutions and resources. And to be honest, we all can benefit from this knowledge, because chances are, your child may have a friend who has special dietary needs. We should all do our part to have kids feel included and safe.
One word can only describe this bakery…..scrumptious! These are the best tasting treats ever! The baked bread is just perfect for an adult get together where you know kids will be around. Take your pick, banana, zucchini or pumpkin! The cupcakes and cookies are delicious and great for birthdays, after soccer games, and school potlucks. My girls love the mini cupcakes! Along with muffins and cakes, she has something for everyone. Most of her business comes from online sales, as she ships nationwide. The atmosphere is casual with modern flair and Michelle always makes everyone feel welcome. If you are ever in Los Osos, this is a sweet local find on the central coast! Be sure to check her website for shop times, but always know you can order online at your convienience. You and your kids are in for a tasty, sweet, and healthy treat!
