Three to Try: Campfire Creations
Let’s get fired up! There is something poetic about the magic of fire and the allure of cooking tasty treats over an open flame. Make your next campfire memorable by roasting, toasting or melting together tantalizing fire-kissed concoctions. We’ll provide the ideas, now all you have to do is provide the flames. Here are three “build-your-own” treats that your campfire companions can create to their specific tastes.
Ultimate BYO S’more Bar
Go beyond the basics. Jazz up this fireside favorite by offering campers the option to customize.
Here’s what you need:
* 1 bag Hershey’s Assorted Miniatures
* 1 bag caramels
* Ritz crackers
* Graham crackers
* Marshmallows
* Peanut butter
* Jelly
* Bananas
* Sticks for roasting
* Plenty of washcloths or wipes
Roast the marshmallows and caramels; let your guests get as creative as they want to be. My personal favorite was a combination of Mr. Goodbar, marshmallow, and caramel squeezed between two Ritz crackers.
Roasty Toasty Cheese Sandwiches
Cheese and crackers get a new twist when you roast string cheese over an open flame. Provide your campfire guests with options to make mini appetizers one roasted chunk of cheese at a time.
Here’s what you will need:
* 1 Package string cheese
* Assorted crackers
* Pizza sauce
* Turkey pepperoni
Recommended for You
* Pesto
* Sliced roast beef or deli ham
* Carmelized onions
* Roasted red pepper
* Sticks for roasting
Quarter the sticks of string cheese. Roast over a fire using a long stick. Just before the piece of cheese is ready to melt off the stick, squeeze off the stick onto a cracker and top with your favorite toppings.
BYO Quesadilla Pudgy Pie
Everything seems to taste better when sandwiched between tortillas and sprinkled with cheese. Now add the intense flavor only an open fire can mix in for the best quesadilla you will ever taste.
Mix and match these ingredients:
* Cooking spray
* Flour tortillas (2 per quesadilla)
* Cooked chicken, steak or shrimp
* Shredded cheese
* Onions
* Peppers
* Corn
* Black beans
* Sour cream
* Taco sauce
* Cilantro
Spray the insides of the pudgy pie maker with cooking spray. Center one tortilla on the bottom half of the pudgy pie maker. Affix ingredients in the center (be cautious not to over stuff the tortilla). Top with tortilla and clamp the pudgy pie maker shut. Discard excess tortilla that may stick out of your pudgy pie maker. Find a nice hot spot with red coals; cook about 3 minutes per side depending on the intensity of the heat, flipping once. Handle with care. Let cool about 3-5 minutes before eating, center will be very hot!
