But not everyone can bake like this gal! I recently got to chat with Nicole, an entrepreneurial Mom and former teacher who started Miss Lulu’s Sweet Treats on Long Island right out of her home.
What inspired you to start your Miss Lulu’s?
At the end of the school year, one of my former 2nd grade students gave me a “bouquet” of cake pops. They were so amazingly delicious, I just had to try to make them myself! I would bring them to friends and family’s houses and people raved about them. It basically started as a hobby but when I became pregnant with my daughter Lucia (hence the name “Miss Lulu’s Sweet Treats”) I decided to make it official and start selling to the public.
How long have you been in business?
What makes your company special?
Every creation I make is completely custom. I work closely with my customers to match the theme and/or color scheme of their events to create a special piece of artwork that everyone can eat. All my treats are made with love and given the attention to detail that your standard bakery lacks.
What healthy options do you offer for people watching their weight?
I can make many of my treats gluten-free but the real beauty is in the cake pops. They are small yet packed with deliciousness and just the right size for people trying to portion control.
What are your best selling treats?
Cake pops are by far the favorite, however my custom cakes are growing in popularity. People have requested everything from favorite cartoon character cupcakes to chic, tiered wedding cakes.
Tell us more about baking parties.
Using my teaching background, I teach children aged 3-13 how to bake from scratch right in their own home. Each baker gets an apron and depending on the age of the guests, we prepare, bake and decorate cookies or cupcakes. Included is a craft, game and favor as well as set-up and clean-up.
Anything else you’d like us to know?
We also offer other services such as candy/dessert buffet tables, custom favor tags, personalized favor ribbon, gift basket arrangements and a “Sweets of the Month” Club. Come visit my Facebook page or wesbite for more information.
