Steven Kapp Perry Hosts Volunteer Recruitment Fair
“Volunteers, Making a Difference Everyday”

Steven Kapp Perry makes a difference everyday by inspiring listeners to give, serve, and share their talents. Perry is not just preaching to the choir. Each Tuesday, Perry takes an hour break from composing to deliver Meals-on-Wheels in Lehi.
Find out what’s available for you and your family at the annual Volunteer Fair sponsored by Mountainland Association of Governments. The fair will be held at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center’s Auditorium 1034 North 500 West Provo, on Friday, April 2, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
As this year’s host, Perry a composer, playwright, broadcaster, and tour guide is an expert in the spirit of volunteerism. Perry has volunteered as a keynote speaker at over 2000 firesides, youth conferences and enrichment meetings. He is also a volunteer with Reach the Children, a nonprofit organization providing education, nutrition and vocational training for children and families in Africa. Perry is best known as host of FM 100.3 Radio “Soft Sunday Sounds.” He has released 14 albums of original music.
Make a difference, meet new people, or share your skills. Volunteer opportunities come in all shapes and sizes. This one stop shopping event for volunteer ideas features 40 different nonprofit agencies seeking to improve the lives of Utah residents. Groups include:
•	Friday’s Kids Respite strengthens families of children with disabilities by providing respite for 53 local families. Friday’s Kids volunteers play one-on-one with disabled children so their parents can have a night out.
•	Habitat for Humanity utilizes 200 volunteers per month on building sites, fundraising committees, and staffing both the Restore and the office.
•	American Red Cross Mountain Valley Chapter is continually looking for Telecare volunteers to provide caring emotional support to homebound elderly by phoning seniors daily for a safety check.
•	Central Utah Center for Independent Living needs volunteers, age 16 and older, to survey rental units by appointment as part of an accessibility check. Training is provided to complete a 4 to 8 page survey.
•	Meals-on-Wheels needs volunteers to give one hour, once a week delivering lunchtime meals to 8-12 homebound seniors.
•	Springville City is seeking volunteers to staff an information desk in the city office building in 4 hour blocks or mend and reshelf books in the library. Springville City also has great projects for Boy Scouts of America Eagle projects.
“I look forward to attending the volunteer fair each year,” said Karen Gillmore a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). “It gives me an opportunity to match my interests and skills to organizations with great people. It just feels good to volunteer.” For more information contact Jean Hatch 801-229-3810 or jhatch@mountainland.org or visit www.mountainland.org.
Mountainland Aging & Family Services Department sponsors RSVP and is the designated Area Agency on Aging charged with the responsibility of planning, advocating, and providing services on behalf of the 55,424 older adults residing in Summit, Utah, and Wasatch Counties.
#	#	#
