Back in February, I realized that I’d become pretty consumed with crossing things off my to-do list. Laundry was getting done. Meals were planned. Floors were mopped. Dust bunnies were trapped and released into the wild.

Things were cooking along pretty good, but I noticed that I we were in a rut. A rut that didn’t include much in the way of FUN.

So, I whipped up another kind of to-do list.

A To-Do for Fun list.

Eight prompts and a few everyday reminders that I use to help me break out of the laundry/bed-making/dish scrubbing/floor sweeping whirlwind.

I fill this list out each week and slap it on my fridge. It encourages us to get out, try new things, tackle new projects, and think of other people in our life.

On Sunday, I usually peruse my Pinterest boards and fill out my To Do for Fun list. My girl helps pick out crafts, recipes, and we talk about our upcoming week. You can download the full size PDF here. 

Now, it’s important to me that I paint an accurate picture of my experience with this list. 

Lest you mistake me for a supermom that has now gleefully tacked an additional eight to-do’s onto an already long list. I’m not. 

I use this as inspiration—as a tool to help me think of something easy and fun to do when the day is taking a downhill turn or when I want to focus all my energy on my girl while the baby naps.

I have never…not once…done everything on the weekly list.

I have hit two birds with one stone and made Bunny Bait (make a treat) and distributed it among family and friends (do something for someone else).

One week, our “do/learn something new” was to teach the baby to wave bye-bye.

For three weeks straight “go to the library” was our “go somewhere”. We never went.

But have had a lot of fun, tried out some new recipes, and turned the music on a whole lot more. This has been a wonderful little tool and I thought it would be fun to share.

I’m always on the lookout for a great pre-printed grocery list. My addled brain has a tough time remembering stuff like toilet paper, tin foil…and occasionally milk and, you know, bread.

A list that allows me to just tick off the items I need without having to undertake the time-consuming process of writing out “sugar” is handy in a way I could’ve never imagined, pre-kids.

(Pre-kids: a time when you wander the aisles of the tiny, trendy, organic grocery store after work and ask yourself, “does it feel like a quiche kind of night?”)

But all shopping lists are not created equal. I’ve had some lackluster experiences, but this one from ellinee is perfect and designed for spring. The post even includes a tutorial on creating a pad of these handy little lists.

Got a kiddo in your house that is ready to tackle a few chores?

Most kids are ready to put their laundry away long before they can actually read the word “laundry”.  Our picture chore chart for non-readers is perfect for getting the littlest kids into a routine of helping around the house each day.

We’ve also included a few personal care tasks that might help encourage some independence and self-sufficiency. Tasks such as “brush teeth”, “get dressed”, and “put dirty clothes away”.

As your child gets older and becomes a reading ninja, we’ve got another printable chore chart for kids that will do nicely.

Directions:

-Download full size chart in orange/pink or green/blue.

-Print sheet and cut in half, separating the chart from the chore picture icons.

-Cut out icons and attach to chore chart to map out the child’s daily tasks.

-To customize this chart with your child’s name, just click on the text above “Chore Chart” to insert your text.

There are a few options for using this chart…

-Glue the icons onto the chart circles, place on refrigerator, and move one magnet along the line as each task is completed, letting the magnet rest on the star once all of the tasks have been finished.

-Laminate your icons/chart to allow the child to use a dry erase marker to cross off each task.

-Laminate your icons/chart and use velcro to affix the icons to the chart. Mark off each task with a dry erase marker, or place a magnet on the star when all tasks are completed.

My girl started preschool last August and has absolutely loved it. She’s a little sponge—full of questions and eager to learn and talk through the new things she’s learning.

Got a wee mischief-maker at your house that could use a seasonal appropriate costume? How about a printable leprechaun hat craft that includes a kicky beard and eyebrows?

My daughter is going to go nuts for this combo and I CAN’T WAIT to tape a little beard onto my baby boy’s face.

I love a craft that results in a photo op and general hilarity.

Materials needed:
