I’m a big fan of smoothies and as such, I’ve raised two smoothie fanatics.
Even in the face of a mother that tells them, “Sorry kiddos, we don’t have X-Y-Z ingredient that I need to make a smoothie” they’ll both stand in front of the freezer and try to cobble together random stuff and convince me that it will work. Maybe one day they’ll convince me to mix peas and almond milk.
Today is not that day.
The corner of the smoothie market that I’ve tried (and failed) to figure out is protein smoothies/shakes.
We’ve tried so many protein shakes and powders and the best my husband and I ever landed on was, “well, I don’t hate it.”
My kids wanted NO part of these powders. They didn’t like the taste, texture, or flavor. Tell me you don’t want to be able to give your kids something filling, nourishing, and FAST on those mornings when all heck breaks loose or you realize that you were supposed to be at the soccer game nine minutes ago?! (True story. Happened three weeks ago. Mom of the year, yo.)
When the chance to test out the new protein smoothies from thinkThin popped up, I was IN.
And I was legitimately skeptical.
Three boxes arrived on my doorstep and my kids were relentless. So we opened them up and had a taste test.
You guys. YOU GUYS.
I’m HOOKED. They are delicious.
I’m surprised they didn’t lick the glasses clean.
Here’s what I love (in addition to the taste):
-Crazy easy to make. You add the milk of your choice (coconut almond milk for us) and ice. The pouch even doubles as a measuring cup for the liquid!
-No fake chemical taste. No bizarro protein powder taste. My husband and I were impressed with how much protein was packed into such a tasty smoothie.
-It tastes like real fruit and peanut butter (because it is) and the packets are filled with dried fruits and things like flaxseed meal and chia seeds.
-Super portable. This would be great for work or family travel. (I would’ve loved to have these for our beach house trip earlier this year.
-15 grams of protein and only 140-190 calories per packet.
So yeah. Our whole household is hooked on the smoothies. This smoothie is my new favorite breakfast (and lunch…and soccer game dinner stand-in.)
But I like to keep breakfast fun at our house. So I whipped up 5 smoothie bowl recipes that my kids loved. Give them a whirl…
Note: For best smoothie bowl results, decrease your liquid to 4 ounces, and increase the ice to 1 cup from the package directions.
