Get Screened Giveaway – Closed

Life is full of surprises. Some surprises are wonderful and enriching. Other surprises…not so much.

As parents we often go to substantial degrees to make sure that we’re prepared for unhappy surprises—stashing extra diapers in the car and Band-Aids in our bag.

Now it’s time to give ourselves a little of that preventive attention by finding out if you’ve got risk factors associated with certain hereditary cancers—Colon Cancer to be exact.

We know you’re busy, but Colon Cancer can be prevented! So take this quiz to find out if you’re at risk.

If it turns out you’re at risk, take the big leap and get screened. Knuckle down and get a colonoscopy if the occasion calls for it and try to spare yourself one unpleasant surprise. Better yet, there’s a genetic test to find out if you carry certain genes for hereditary colon cancer. Knowing this will help you map out your prevention plan specific to you. Remember to talk to your spouse and extended family and remind them to get screened as well!

Here’s the bottom line…we want you to get screened. So we wondered how to get that point across? We all spend time in front of so many “screens” (computer, iPad, reader, digital camera) and it seemed logical to go BIG.

So to keep Colon Cancer screening top of mind, we’re giving away lots of screens. You can also enter to win a gift certificate to Nordstroms so you can pick out your own little bright and shiny something.  While we’re at it, we figured we’d toss a Kitchen Aid Mixer in so you can bake something wonderful to eat while looking good in front of all of those screens!

Get Screened - Enter to win your choice of prize AND know your risk

You may or may not elect to watch the video of your colonoscopy on these devices if you win.

Up to you.

I am already too aware of the effects of colon cancer as it runs in both sides of my family. While the procedure doesn’t seem like the best idea, I know it will save my life 🙂

  2. Allison Randall 04/10/2013 at 2:52 pm

Thanks so much for doing this. One of my childhood best friends (and a mother of two little kids) is very sick with colon cancer. Terribly scary and sad. I hope with awareness, we can beat this beast.

  3. Sarah 04/02/2013 at 9:09 pm

    No increased risk! Yeah!

Google Chrome said that your link to Somewhat Simple: The Website Ahead Contains Malware!

    • Rachael Herrscher 03/25/2013 at 3:10 pm

There is a site that is hosted on the same server as SomeWhatSimple.com that is causing it. So poor little SomewhatSimple is getting killed for it right now. I think they are trying to switch servers. I promise she’s all food, crafts and wholesome! 😀

  16. Boo Goblir 03/25/2013 at 11:51 am

Yes, sometimes it’s easier taking care of others more than ourselves.

I had my second colonoscopy last November. It wasn’t easy but when you know it will be over soon you can almost do anything. I wrote about it (ugh!) on my blog.

    http://www.rocknoaksranch.com/2011/11/worry-faith-and-my-colonoscopy.html

The link doesn’t work from the Lynch website. Someone forgot to put her(E)ditary The link is missing the middle “e” on the address page. Someone needs to fix that. But I noticed it, so I went to the google bar and asked for the hereditary colon cancer quiz and I did take it and count me, too It’s on my Facebook Wall and I tweeted it twice. @SusanLaz2

Even though you may not have any cancer in your family, anyone can still get it and I’ve lost lots of friends from this disease. Thank you for the chance to remind my friends again to take the screening. Oh and yep…the giveaway, too. You’re doing a great work.
