We woke up to more than 18 inches of snow last week and it just kept coming! When you get a snow day, you have the ready-made ingredients for fresh snow cream!
What’s snow cream? Imagine a vanilla-flavored shaved ice made Hawaiian style – creamy sweetness with the crisp taste of new snow.
Here’s the basic recipe
Fresh Snow Cream
Fresh snow – white and clean and fluffy, 1 bowl = approx 8 cups
Cream (milk or half and half work too), approx. 1 cup
Granulated Sugar (approx. 1/2 cup)
Send your kids out to gather the fresh snow in a large plastic mixing bowl. After you’ve helped put on all the gloves, hats and snow pants and the kids are busy with snow angels, mix together the cream, vanilla and sugar in a large liquid measuring cup. Stir until it no longer feels grainy and the sugar is dissolved.
Call the kids in. Remove snow clothes and retrieve the bowl of fresh snow they left outside. Slowly drizzle the cream mixture over the snow while a child stirs the snow with a spoon. The snow will reduce quickly into a pile of squeaky clumps. Scoop immediately into cups and serve.
