Nicole’s Classes Photo 101 Giveaway [CONTEST CLOSED]

Thank you to everyone the entered. Congratulations to our winner, Lee!

Do you have a DSLR camera that you’d love to learn to use?

I mean really use?

Hey, I’m not judging. I spent a good long while loving my presets, but after taking Photo 101 from Nicole’s Classes (taught by Nicole Gerulat), I have embraced shooting in manual and will never look back.

You can read my full review of Photo 101 here.

I had such a great experience with this class, learning to use my Big Girl Camera, that the lovely folks at Nicole’s Classes told me I could giveaway a spot in Photo 101 to one of our lucky readers!

Photo 101 is an online course (one class among MANY from Nicole’s Classes) offered each month. It’s a 4-week class that thoroughly covers basic photography principles like composition, posing, lighting, lenses, and most importantly shooting in manual.

To enter, simply leave a comment below telling me about your favorite photo. (You can even post a link if the photo is available online.)

I’ll announce a winner on April 11, 2012 in the evening. Good luck!

*The winner will be able to select the month they’d like to take Photo 101 out of May, June, or July 2012.

My new favorite subject to photograph is my 8-month old, Clementine. I don’t have a favorite photo of her although one that is a favorite is the header to my blog. My friend described her as “serious like a prime minister”. Each month I dress her in an old dress of mine, sit her in the rocker in her nursery next to a few plushies, and snap away. And when I look at the photos I fall in love with her all over again. http://WWW.toniaconger.blogspot.com.

I love a photo that was taken of my daughter and nephew as dusk. They are blowing the seeds off a dandelion as the sun is setting. The light is beautiful.

  3. Monique 04/10/2012 at 2:01 pm

My favorite picture is of my son playing in the snow last year. I would love to learn to shoot manual.

  4. Kelley 04/10/2012 at 11:59 am

My favorite photo is one I took with my iPhone (I know) and it’s of my 95 year old grandmother and my 9 month old daughter sitting next to each other, gazing out the window – similar profiles, new and old and so much the same, just peacefully staring. Since then I’ve upgraded and also had another baby so intimidation/distractions have kept me from learning how to properly use it!

My favorite photo is of my now grown daughter and son, hugging each other before he left on his first date to the Prom.. I wish I had my nice camera back then to have taken an even better photo. I’ve had my Nikon for 3 years now still shooting in manual. I need HELP…. I want to take fabulous pictures of my family and grandkids…. I would love to attend this class….

I have bought many cameras over the years, but my most favorite photo is one I took in Ireland 20 years ago! My friend’s daughter was walking along a stone wall on the beach while the sun was setting and I took a photo of her which came out as a sepia-toned silhouette. I couldn’t have planned it if I’d tried! I’ve always loved photography but I’ve never learned how to use my camera correctly (it’s always been hit or miss. I like to think I have a good eye, but because I’m never really sure of what I’m doing, I have to attribute a lot of it to luck!). I’d love to learn how to use really use my camera!

My favorite photo is one of my daughter on the beach. I have been really wanting to take a great photography class to really understand my camera better!

  8. Lisa M. 04/10/2012 at 9:49 am

My favorite photo is of my son holding my daughter when right after she was born!

  9. Jill K 04/10/2012 at 9:11 am

My favorite photo I have ever taken is one of my 4yo daughter kissing my 3 month old son. If I actually knew how to work my camera, the picture would have been a million times better!

  10. Lily Kwan 04/09/2012 at 11:57 pm

My favorite photo is of my friend.

  11. Denise Blanton 04/06/2012 at 9:51 pm

My favorite picture is of my daughter when she was two years old. She had been playing with her great grandmother’s jewelry and she had been allowed to put clip earrings on and several necklaces on and she was in heaven. I got a close up of her and the look in her eyes is priceless. Her great grandma couldn’t have given her a greater gift than to let her wear her “grown up” jewelry. She thought she was beautiful.

  12. Christy Young 04/06/2012 at 12:23 am

I like the pic of the man looking longingly at the swing set. Wishing he could play.

  13. A.Patel 04/05/2012 at 10:02 am

My favorite photo is of my husband and son watching boats of the S.F. bay.

  14. Wendy 04/05/2012 at 7:48 am

My favorite photo is of my kids playing outside the first day I got my new dslr. However I can never get the photos I want in auto and would love to move to manual.

  15. Christine J 04/04/2012 at 10:54 pm

    I would love this!

My favorite photo is a silhouette of my husband and son holding hands overlooking a beautiful sunset up at Snowbird. I just printed this one on canvas recently I love it that much.

  16. MiQuel McRae 04/02/2012 at 9:43 pm

Just had my fourth baby…I’d love to finally be able to put a decent picture in the scrapbook.

  17. charlene barber 04/02/2012 at 2:19 pm

my favorite photo is one I took of my wedding ring on my 3 pound son’s toe while he was in the NICU!

  18. Lisa F 04/02/2012 at 2:16 pm

My favorite photo is of my two toddler children sitting on the grass together. They both have their mouths open laughing and are touching each other’s noses. It’s so sweet and shows the bond they have so well.

  19. Amanda 04/02/2012 at 12:38 pm

  21. Holly 04/02/2012 at 12:08 pm

My favorite photo is one my husband took of my daughter at dance class a few weeks ago. She was jumping in the air and he caught her up in the air. It’s an amazing picture.

  22. Sara G. 04/02/2012 at 12:06 pm

My favorite photo if of my three boys snugging on the couch together. It’s a rare moment to capture, and it makes me smile.

  23. Valeria 03/31/2012 at 12:34 am

It’s difficult to choose a single photo, but one of my favorites is one of my parents…my father is helping my mom pull a splinter out of her finger. Not sure who took the photo, but it captures the two of them in a rare moment of togetherness. They are no longer on speaking terms, but that image reminds me of how much they once cared for each other.

  24. wendy s 03/30/2012 at 9:07 pm

Emotionally my favorite photograph is one I took just the other day… my husband laying on our couch with our chocolate lab curled up at his feet and our 3 week old son on his chest – all three of them sleeping peacefully. (FINALLY!)

Artistically my favorite photograph was taken in my garden. A not yet ripe tomato on the vine – perfectly cylindrical and green. Light reflects off the “tomato fuzz” giving atractive contrast to the monochromatic photograph.

  25. Debbye Boe 03/30/2012 at 9:32 am

My favorite photo is one I took years ago with a 35mm SLR camera. It was of the ocean with the sun glinting off the waves, taken at San Clemente. A large print of it graces my parents’ living room wall, and it looks different at different times of the day. I just bought a new digital SLR and am only now starting to play with it a bit.

  26. Dey 03/30/2012 at 8:08 am

My fav photo is my dad in our old truck going down the winding hill in San Fran.

  27. Kris L. 03/29/2012 at 6:52 pm

My favorite photo is one that I took of my 5 month old daughter laughing and drooling. Its so precious.

  28. Brooke 03/29/2012 at 1:39 am

My favorite photo is a closeup of my grandmother’s hand holding my 6 month-old nephew’s little hand. She died shortly after he was born an I cry every time I see it!

  29. Lisa 03/28/2012 at 11:07 pm

My favorite photo is a sepia of my oldest daughter blowing bubbles (when she was little). You see her hair being swept by the wind, her little lips pursed and a close up of a big bubble just coming off the wand. Perfect!

  30. Maria 03/28/2012 at 3:14 pm

My favorite photo is of my baby boy!

  31. Becky 03/28/2012 at 1:42 pm

My fab is the pic I took of my girls on Christmas. Love it.

  32. Stephanie Porter 03/28/2012 at 1:40 pm

My favorite photos are of my daughters. I’d love to learn how to better capture them. Cheers!

  33. natalie 03/28/2012 at 1:19 pm

my favorite photo is probably of my mom holding me as a baby. i love her giant glasses and long hair.

  34. Kathe 03/28/2012 at 12:17 pm

Hmmmm. How do you choose one favorite? I’d say my favorites are the photos of my children first. They capture the memories forever, stop time in a frame, help you to remember the used to’s. They are the ones I stop to look at and remember…

  35. Carolyn Russell 03/28/2012 at 11:36 am

I have sooo many favorite pictures, they all involve my family and where we have gone for vacation. I think one that I am the proudest of is of “The Wave” you have probably seen it in other pictures and on calendars, but I actually entered the drawing to get the tickets. Then you have to hike back in there to get to the place. It was an awesome treat! Not only was I impressed with nature, but I was impressed that I was able to hike it with my husband!

  36. Rebecca 03/28/2012 at 11:30 am

One of my favorites is a picture of two of my daughters with their heads together. One has white hair, very fair skin and blue eyes, one is dark eyes, dark skinned and dark eyes. The difference and similarities are all there swirled together. it makes me want to learn how to shoot better so I can capture those differences and similarities in the same photo.

  37. Krissy R 03/28/2012 at 10:53 am

My favorite photo is a close up of my sweet 3 year old boy, smiling and his eyes are just showing his joy. I would love to take this class so I can know what to do with my camera! Thanks!

  38. Stepper 03/28/2012 at 10:39 am

Oh, I SO need this class! I love photography, and love capturing my family in that sweet moment, you know? But I have no clue how to manually shoot – and I am lower than amateur when it comes to composition. My blog and my LIFE would really benefit from this. Have I convinced you, yet?

My favorite photograph is of my son, Henry, looking off-camera with a wry smile (he was seven months old at the time), wearing a beanie on his head. Behind him you can see a red barn and fields of corn. We were at a pumpkin picking event, and this picture captures the mood of the evening perfectly.

  39. Jennifer Beavers 03/28/2012 at 10:34 am

My fav pict is one of my 3 year old sleeping so sweet.

  40. Alison 03/28/2012 at 10:06 am

I have a lot of favorite photos but I love this one of my youngest son. I love his expression and the light. Thanks for a great giveaway – I have been wanting to take one of Nicole’s classes!

  41. Clisty B 03/28/2012 at 10:00 am

I shoot on auto…..with my d7000. Yes I wear the auto button crown. Its served me well, but I know theres more to learn. I have 3 girlfriends that are all pro photogs, I drive them crazy with questions.
Here’s my daughters prom pic, which could use some tweaking but I don’t really know where to begin.

I’m hoping the odds are ever in my favor.

  42. Emily 03/28/2012 at 9:59 am

My favorite photo is one my brother-in-law took of my daughter on her first birthday experiencing her birthday cake! He has a great eye for pics and always captures great moments. I’d love to take this class so I can work on doing the same thing.

  43. Kelly Tulk 03/28/2012 at 9:58 am

I would love to take this class!! My most recent fav photo is of my youngest at the beach in Cancun during spring break!

  45. Stephanie 03/28/2012 at 9:45 am

My favorite picture is of my oldest daughter holding my second one for the first time and singing to her. So sweet and unplanned.

  46. Sarah Cruz 03/28/2012 at 9:36 am

Favorite photo. Any featuring one of my three boys, particularly when they aren’t looking at the camera. Cool post. Love blurry backgrounds. : )

  47. Shannon 03/28/2012 at 9:09 am

My fave photo that I’VE taken is a vase of cut daffodils sitting on our snow-covered adirondack chairs that I took last winter (one of worst winters EVER). That was before I got my DSLR though… sigh. Still very-much figuring out my new camera. This class sounds perfect – thanks for the info and the chance to win!

  48. Lynsey Scottberg 03/28/2012 at 7:21 am

My DSLR has been grossly underused since I got it – I’m overwhelmed, I don’t even know where to start. This class would be so great! My favorite photo is a wedding photo of my husband and me, capturing the snowy day and has a vintage feel.
