Healthy Living for Mom: Workout Music
There are days when the only thing that gets me motivated to get on the treadmill in my basement is the fact that I get to listen to my music while I walk/run. Most of my workout music is inappropriate for small ears. Hence the appeal. Nothing says “me time” like a little Lady GaGa or Nickleback (NO JUDGING) in my headphones.

Favorite pair, by skullcandy.
Before starting this Healthy Living series, I hadn’t worked out in quite awhile. This meant that I got to rediscover a lot of great workout music that had been hanging out in my iTunes library.
Here are a few of my old favorites and some recent downloads:
Paris (Ooh La La), Grace Potter & The Nocturnals
Streetcorner Symphony, Rob Thomas
You Give Love a Bad Name, Bon Jovi
Too bad I didn’t pop those earbuds in at some point in the last week. Might have helped prevent my FIVE POUND GAIN.
What? Someone had to eat those leftovers. And watch movies. And stay in her jammies all day.
MY WEEKLY STATS
- Starting Weight: 195.5 pounds
- Week Eighteen Weight: 182 pounds ( +5 pound / -13.5 pounds total)
- Goal Weight: 165 lbs
Tell me I’m not alone in relishing the holiday goodies…and share your guilty pleasure workout songs. I can’t be the only one that secretly likes Nickelback.

I teach Spin classes and anything by Muse is a big success with the class. Also The Killers, somebody told me. Thirty Seconds to Mars has several great ones too. Ramstein, Du Haust. Nickelback, Burn to the ground. Bon Jovi, Living on a Prayer. Foster the People, Pumped up kicks. The Constellations, Felicia.

Try Florence & the Machine’s Kiss with a Fist and Dog Days Are Over (better than Glee cast!), Enrique Iglesias – I Like It, Ricky Martin – The Cup of Life, Flo Rida – Jump, Sleater Kinney – Oh!, and any dance songs by Beyonce. I’m adding some of yours to my workout list too, so thanks! I’ve been using Loseit.com since last April and have lost over 50 pounds (still trying to lose another 20). Keep up the good work!
The only thing you’re missing is a little Michael Jackson!
I absolutely LOVE Nickelback!
You are NOT alone!
LOVE their new song “When We Stand Together”. I love his voice!
