Celebrity Baby: Blue Ivy Carter

Blue Ivy Carter, the daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z, will be one week old on Saturday, and she’s already broken the record as the youngest person to ever appear on a Billboard chart.

She’s had a big week.

Beyonce and Jay-Z are rumored to have paid $1.3 million to rent out the fourth floor of the Lenox Hill Hospital in New York.  Patients were turned away from the floor, as were doctors and nurses.  The hospital put tape over security cameras and hospital employees had to turn in their cell phones when they arrived for their scheduled shifts.

Parents of other infants in the hospital complained that they were being kept from their own children in the neonatal intensive care unit due to heightened security on the floor.

Big bags of take-out were seen going in as was a case of red wine.

I barely got a packet of saltines and a plastic cup of cranberry juice, no joke.

What do you think of the Blue Ivy hoopla?  Overboard or necessary security?

I do think that some security IS necessary for A-Listers like Beyonce. I know they are avoiding the paparazzi and possible babynappers. I get that. I think we all do. However, blacking out security cameras all over(black out the ones close to them! Not all of them if that’s what happened)is a bit over the top.Stand guard next to and around the room and escort the nurses to the nursery. But don’t prevent new mothers from seeing their babies in the NICU. That’s unforgivable. My daughter was born in November and the hospital had lojacks on her ankle and they compared her bracelets to mine and my husbands. I realize we are not celebrities but when you have a high end hospital like Lenox Hill, I suspect they have fine security around the nursery.Maybe they were justified in renting out the whole floor, but i do think they went overboard with the security IF that is what happened. Again, if that did happen, I can only imagine those new mothers fury and angst not being able to see their babies. They took my daughter for a total of 15 minutes a day and it drove me crazy. If she were in the NICU I would be screaming for blood if I couldn’t get to her. I understand the need for privacy and wanting the most special day of your life to stay out of the public eye, but let normal people have their special day too.
