2012 Resolution: Get Organized

A few months ago, I made a list of all the things I stink at/could be doing better.  And let me tell you, it’s long.

I know that might sound a little Debbie Downer, but I want to be able to identify my weaknesses.  My hope is, by seeing a list of things that I feel like I can work on, I can really start to make some improvements.

My list is long and random.  Item number 19 is take my son in for pictures every three months for his first year.  Item number 27 is to be better about sending birthday cards.  You might call my list eclectic.

Writing my list out has already helped me to recognize a pattern, and since Carina gave awesome advice about not tackling 25 resolutions at once, I’m going to start by attacking one common thread.

I need to get organized.

This one resolution and goal can stretch far and wide in my house.  It can carry me from my complete inability to ever find two clean and matching socks for my children, to help me cure my need to stack paperwork like it’s a crazy game of Jenga, to meal planning so there’s less “what’s for dinner” refrigerator staring at 6pm.  And don’t even get me started on some of our closets.

I wouldn’t say I’m a messy person by nature.  But I am a busy person, and sometimes with everything that’s going on in my life, paperwork does get shuffled into a precarious pile.  It’s reality.

So while I don’t expect to be able to report back that every little single thing in my life has it’s own perfect place, I do think that there is room for improvement. My husband would DEFINITELY tell you there is room for improvement.  And soon my two year old might start wondering why her socks are never the same color.  Better nip it in the bud now, and 2012 is going to be the year to do it.

To keep myself honest, please check out this shelf in our laundry room.  It’s ugly.  On a separate note, admire that stockpile of formula, as I took my Extreme Couponing post seriously.  Stay tuned for a check-in a few months down the road to see how I’m doing on my resolution, and if I can actually see anything on this shelf.

Admittedly a disaster...

More resolution fun…

Love this Shan. Getting organized in all the places I don’t want to is a big resolution for me too!

Aah, love to see it. I’ve made one change- I made a folder to put my kids’ school papers in. The mail, coupons, to-do lists etc still clutter my counter, but at least ONE thing has a spot.
