Healthy Living for Mom: New Year’s Resolutions

So, it’s that time. The time where we all revel in the completed holiday to-do lists and feel an overwhelming sense of freedom because the big fire-breathing holiday season is now behind us.

Time to make those New Year’s Resolutions, baby!

You would think that someone that has been working for over four months to lose weight would be chomping at the bit to get a road bike and burn of the pavement, tackle a marathon, or participate in an Ironman Triathlon. I bet there are plenty of ambitious people that are planning to do just that in 2012.

I am not one of those people.

I really enjoy working out, but I’m tired of thinking about it all the time. I wanted to lose weight to be healthy and to chase my kids around the yard without getting winded. I want to throw on my jeans without spending 15 minutes pondering how to hide my muffin top. I want to hop on my bike to pick up my girl from preschool. Being active and staying genuinely healthy is part of my life…but it’s not my whole life.

So in that spirit, I’m about to rollout what is possibly the least ambitious fitness resolutions you’ve ever heard:

I resolve to lose the remaining 12 pounds to get to my goal weight…and to keep it off in 2012.

Not a wildly inspiring resolution on the surface, but for me, this goal represents fundamentally shifting my lifestyle as it has been for the last 11 years.

I’ve never lost weight and consistently kept it off. Granted, there have been two pregnancies in the last four-and-a-half years to take into account. But my point is that maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not where I have historically exceled.

So my goal, plain and simple, is to step on the scale on December 31, 2012 and have it read 165.

That will be a huge accomplishment for me.

MY WEEKLY STATS

  • Starting Weight: 195.5 pounds
  • Week Seventeen Weight: 177 pounds ( -1 pound / -18.5 pounds total)
  • Goal Weight: 165 lbs

What are your New Year’s Resolutions? You probably have goals that are way cooler than mine! Do share.

That is an awesome resolution and I’m sure you will get there in 2012. Reading your stats is encouraging too. I can relate to the starting point and I’m happy to see that it can be done. Congrats on how far you have come thus far. 🙂
