Kids Need an Occupy Movement Too

I’ve been thinking . . . and it’s really a shame that kids don’t have a way to get involved in the “Occupy Movement“.  They’ve shut down #OccupySLC because of some dead guy at the park. We can’t even take the kids to occupy the streets anymore.

My 7-year-old daughter felt like her needs weren’t being met just the other day and said to me “Servant! Fetch me a glass of water!”.

Time for an Occupy Movement

I’m the 1% who has access to the cupboards. Furthermore, I’m the gatekeeper to her allowance. She wants more. She wants to do less. I make her jump through hoops that I call “chores”.  Not only that but I force her to attend social institutions . . . like public school.  I limit her access to technology . . . and candy. I’m running a serious dictatorship over here. She’s got reason to be upset. As a matter of fact, as I type, I hear her in the other room lamenting about the skinny jeans she has to wear today. Now I’m getting heat for the uniforms that have been provided!

I have the perfect place for her to display her angst and dissatisfaction:

The other thing that’s mandated around our house is bathing. That’s still part of the deal when she “occupies” at our house. Too bad she can’t be totally like her friends on Wall Street . . .

I listened to a hilarious commentary on NPR this morning from the hipsters on Walstreet, and I’m with her. Occupy!
