Healthy Living for Mom: Vacation Diet

As I mentioned earlier this week, I went on a Disney Cruise.  It was fantastic and the food was some of the best I’ve ever eaten.

So, naturally, I gained 5 pounds.

I’m not sorry.

Maybe I would be bummed about messing up my vacation diet if I had gained those 5 pounds because I spent a week feasting on subpar food, but I didn’t. I enjoyed dishes like Panko Crusted Pork Tenderloin (stuffed with ham and gorgonzola), Roasted Lemon-Herb Chicken, Beef Tenderloin, and Gnocchi with Asparagus in Gorgonzola sauce.

There was also an appearance by a Chocolate Souffle served with vanilla gelato and chocolate sauce.

Delicious!

Maybe my logic is flawed, but I’m more comfortable with weight gain associated with phenomenal food and a enriching experience than if I had gained the same weight because I couldn’t keep my hands out of the leftover Halloween candy.

Don’t get me wrong. I love me some Twix, but I can have Twix anytime. Chocolate Souffle in a swanky restaurant with a hot date and ocean view?

WORTH IT.

So, now that I’m home and Thanksgiving is looming ahead…immediately followed by the sugar festival known as “December”, I’ll try to keep this philosophy in mind.

But, just to be safe, I’m joining a gym.

  • Week Eleven Weight: 185 pounds ( +5 pounds this week / -10.5 pounds total)
  • Goal Weight: 165 lbs

    I’ve had several friends join a Boot Camp program with a lot of success. Something like that or a church-affiliated class could be less expensive. If you go to a gym chain (like Gold’s or Urban Active), beware that they may try to pressure you into all kinds of ridiculousness either when you buy the membership or when you go in for your “free” training session. I’ve been known to leave those sessions in tears or in a mad rage.
