Don’t Knock My Bucket List

My husband and I decided to create Bucket Lists, even before our Just Ask Getaway Giveaway began.  Since he and I like to hang out together (which is a good thing, till death do us part and all), we decided to only do a 50-item bucket list since we’ll probably join together for a lot of the items.

bucket list buddies

I haven’t finished my list, but let Jake take a look at it anyway.  As I handed the computer over, I said, “You can’t make fun of or discourage any of my items.”

It only took two seconds for him to break into hysterical laughter.  Number 1 on my RANDOMLY ORDERED list is “Visit Nova Scotia and take an Anne of Green Gables tour.”  So…I’m pretty sure I’ll be in need of a different travel partner for that one.

He liked “order a small wedding cake for my anniversary and eat it.”  If your wedding was anything like ours, you got the one delicious bite of cake during the “share the cake photo op” and then were swept away before a fatty slice could be had.  I want more cake, dang it!

Then Jake was quiet while he continued reading.  Until, that is, he reached #28: Own a teacup pig.

Jake: You want a pig?

Me: Yes, a cute little one!  You can train them like dogs.

Jake: I just thought of another item for my bucket list.  Learn to make homemade bacon.

Me:  Stop!

Jake: Liiiittle bitty bacon strips.

He’s so funny.  So very funny.  Does anyone know where I can buy a little bitty piggy?

Here are 15 more items from my Bucket List.

  1. See Machu Pichu
  2. Learn to play the bass guitar
  3. Own a 1950’s or ’60’s Ford truck
  4. Hike and white water raft in the Grand Canyon with my family
  5. Stop biting my nails (another year, another failed New Year’s Resolution)
  6. Complete a trail running race
  7. Complete an adventure race with my brother
  8. Start my own blog
  9. Live overseas for a year
  10. Go to Puerto Rico and meet my family
  11. Take a ceramics class
  12. Plant a pumpkin patch
  13. Go on an overnight sailboat trip (side note: learn to tie knots)
  14. Take a Russian literature class
  15. Ride in a motorcycle sidecar
Check out the info for our Just Ask Getaway Giveaway to post your own bucket list for a chance to WIN!  And let me know about those teacup pigs…

I love your wedding cake idea. My daughter is so confused about not being at our wedding. I think we’ll make it a family thing next year…everyone gets cake!!

I really, really, really, really, really, really, really want to go to Machu Pichu too.

It is so strange you all did this recently. Brian and I did the same thing. As far as the teacup piggy goes…there are three breeders in Kentucky that I know of in Frenchburg, Columbia, and Madison, KY. 🙂

Of COURSE you know some breeders! Why didn’t I think of that?! 🙂

I love it! I need to make a list. And I love the wedding cake idea. I have been bitter about my lack of cake since July 21, 2007.

Great ideas! I’m lovIng #11&12. Maybe you could make a ceramic teacup pig?

    • Erin Oltmanns 10/29/2011 at 9:06 pm

      LOL! Amy wins.

Yea… they are harsh critics. When I posted mine my fiance said, “Is backpacking through Europe still on there?” HECK YES it is!!!

    Silly man…that won’t change!

I love your bucket list! I want to do almost everything on there too! (except I’d rather have a goat than a teacup pig)

  9. Carrie Finlinson 10/25/2011 at 9:20 am

I would love to be your Anne of Green Gables tour buddy! Jake is very funny.

Now I want a tiny pig and to ride in the sidecar of a motorcycle!

    • Geri C 10/25/2011 at 10:09 pm

Laughing so hard right now, Rachael!!! I totally misread your comment and thought you said you wanted a tiny pig to ride in the sidecar of a motorcycle. Not what you said AT ALL!! I had this vision of you in the driver’s seat with your tiny pig next to you in the sidecar, flying down the road in your matching goggles and scarves! Hilarious!!!

      • Erica Fehrman 10/26/2011 at 8:56 am

LOL! That would be worthy of a calendar picture. I saw a big biker guy in downtown Salt Lake City once, and he had his dog in the motorcycle sidecar, wearing a pointy biker helmet and goggles.

I’m sure your hubby has some pretty amusing things on his list too!
