Giveaway: “But Excuse me that is MY book..” (Contest Closed)

Thank you to everyone that entered! The winner is Anna R. Anna has been contacted via email. Congratulations!

You’re right! It can be YOUR book.  In the Birthday Book spirit, we know how to share the book love at TodaysMama!  Leave a comment below, telling us a favorite book you’ve shared with a child. One winner will be selected from the comments to receive a Charlie & Lola Gift Pack.

Charlie & Lola Gift Pack includes:

  • Two copies of “Slightly Invisible,” the latest volume of Charlie & Lola adventures by Lauren Child.
    • One for your child’s library & one for your school’s library
  • A box set of 8 Charlie & Lola DVDs
  • A Charlie & Lola Playset, with poseable, talking Charlie & Lola dolls

Not familiar with our small and very funny girl, Lola?  Let me enlighten you.  My daughter first found,

In “Slightly Invisible,” Lola wants to join big brother, Charlie, in search of strange and tricky creatures.  Charlie would rawther that Lola would disappear.  Invisibility is the spec-ial-i-ty of Soren Lorenson, Lola’s imaginary friend.  Lola’s ingenuity and brilliance shine through once again as she shows us just how to coax a tricky creature to tea.

We loved searching for a shimmer of Soren among the textures and patterns of the artwork.  If you come to our flat for story time, all the reading must be done with a British accent and, of course, we’ll provide the biscuits and pink milk.

Candlewick Press generously donated a Charlie & Lola gift pack to TodaysMama and is providing one for the Giveaway as well.  I’ve been making my own pink milk for years and happily claim these opinions as my own. Comment away! The contest closes on Friday, September 2 at 5p MST.

My daughter (3 and a half) is an insatiable reader. Early on, the Boynton books were a favorite. I really enjoy the books Jamie Lee Curtis has written (Today I Feel Silly, Big Words for Little People, etc.) But the book I most enjoy reading is Dr. Seuss’s Fox in Socks. I love the tongue twisters and have found that they are less challenging when looking at them upside down!

We love all the Rainbow Magic fairy books by Daisy Meadows. However my favorite is the first one we read Holly the Christmas Fairy. We read it in one sitting-all 151 pgs! It made me want to get a Chrismas fairy costume and go to all our friends and family sleepovers and read it to the young girls! We have since read several stories in the series and love them. The best part is that you dont need to start at the begining of the series, each book is self contained as well as being connected. Every girl should read them while they are young enough to believe in the magic!

I love reading my daughter, who is three “The Giving Tree”. Its a great read. My daughter is learning to share and give. I can still remember the first time I read this book…It was in high school (1995) and I was babysitting my neighbors sons. She had so many childrens book and this one just stood out because of the cover; bright green color. I think by the time the boy was asking for things I was reading it more to myself than to the little ones I was babysitting and the ending – what an inpac, make me cry all the time, yes, all the time. The Giving tree…

Hello! What a fun give-away!! My 4 year old daughter, Megan, loves Charlie & Lola! A very clever series. I am a HUGE bookworm, so I thank my lucky stars that both my little girls love hearing a good story, since their mama reads to them all the time. We enjoy many, many books, but our favorite right now is called “TumTum & Nutmeg, Adventures Beyond Nutmouse Hall.” Once upon a time, I was a 2nd grade teacher and when I left my classroom to raise my children I took along the habit of previewing & reading all sorts of young children’s books. “TumTum and Nutmeg” was a book I picked up last year, read it and loved it and put it on my shelf to save for my daughters when they are older. It’s sat on my shelf waiting to be read aloud beside other classics like: “Mouse & the Motorcycle”, “Cricket in Timesquare”, and “Mrs. Pigglewiggle.” To my delight, Megan asked me a few months ago what those books were about, and I started reading “Tum Tum” outloud to her. There are very few pictures and it is a huge novel of a book, but she loves it and we read together for hours. How happy was I to discover that I could read novels to my preschooler, and what a great way for her to practice her imagination to hear the story and imagine the pictures in her mind. We cuddle and read while her baby sister naps, and before going to sleep everynight. So much fun!

Next up for us, I’m thinking of “The Wind in the Willows.” Doesn’t get much better than that!

    ~ Lisa

We love Charlie & Lola in our house and in our preschool! We read together everyday, twice as part of our school and three times as a family. One of our favorite books is Pippi Longstocking, by Astrid Lindgren, illustrated by Lauren Child. Pippi is such a wonderfully eccentric character and her many adventures never fail to delight! We’ve read through the book as a whole several times, but have also gone back to read individual chapters, which stand alone as complete stories about Pippi in and of themselves. Two all-time favorite chapters: Pippi Goes to School and Pippi has Coffee with the Ladies. We are also big Charlie and Lola fans, partly because they are so fun and partly because we love the relationships between the characters. Charlie is such a good big brother, he’s makes a wonderful role model for us all!

My kids and I love Nick Bruel books such as “Who is Melvin Bubble?”, “Bad Kitty,” and “Poor Puppy.” They are so fun to read aloud. This “Charlie & Lola” Gift Pack sounds wonderful. I used to see the show a lot on TV when my oldest child was a toddler. It actually influenced me to name my second child Lola! And now, as a preschooler, she thinks it’s neat that there are books and shows with a little girl who has the same name. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
