11 Easy Things in 2011- An Update

Back in January when I drafted my list of 11 Easy Things I was going to accomplish in 2011, I was in my third trimester and knee-deep in home construction. Time for an update!

My husband completed our basement in mid-February. He’s a construction ninja!

Basement Before (Late December)

Basement After (Mid February)

A week later, we welcomed our baby boy!

Hi, sweet baby.

So, it turns out there was some wisdom in keeping my list easy. Because, I’m not gonna lie, we’re spending a serious amount of time around here coordinating sleep. I have made a bit of progress on my list though. Here’s an update:

Plant a raspberry bush.

Done! Bonus points for also planting a blackberry bush. My husband and daughter get all the credit though as this was an activity born out of a desperate need to get a cabin fever plagued 3-year-old the heck out of the house.

Get back to the music.

My late night nursing sessions have been greatly enhanced by viewing Conan episodes on the DVR. I’ve picked up a few new songs after seeing an artist perform on the show. My favorite so far? Grace Potter and The Nocturnals . I also downloaded Adele’s new album. I have now purchased more (non-Glee) music than I did in all of 2010. Go me!

Find the perfect shade of red lipstick.

Don’t make me laugh! I am lucky if I get to blow my hair dry once a week. Red lipstick is on the back burner.

Finally learn to make bread.

Before I can bake bread, I need to figure out how to return “eat lunch” to my daily routine.

Clean out the closet.

Dude. I rocked this. That week between finishing the basement and birthing a baby? Yeah, I spent that week purging my closets with gusto. So much gusto that I got rid of everything except my pre-pregnancy weight clothes. Whoops! Looks like I’ll be rocking these panel pants a bit longer than expected.

Overhaul the closet.

No movement here. Waiting until fall…hopefully I’ll be back in fighting shape by then.

Get a few houseplants up in here.

My birthday is coming up in May. Maybe I’ll treat myself to a fabulous houseplant. Any recommendations?

Start vlogging.

Rachael and I have cooked up some ideas. Stay tuned!

Read at least one book a month.

I’m not doing great at the one book per month quota, but I’ve been working my way through a few simultaneously. With the arrival of a new baby I’ve been re-reading my well worn copy of Healthy Sleep Habits Happy Child.

My sweet daughter sailed easily through her “terrible two’s”. She hit three in January and we’ve seen our fair share of tantrums so I started searching for some reading material and settled on Positive Discipline for Preschoolers. I can’t say enough good things about this book. It has helped me understand my girl (and myself) so much.

Set up the playroom.

Between closet purging and contractions, I spend some pre-baby time moving my daughter’s toys into our basement. It’s a pretty bare-bones set up right now, but I’ve been scouring etsy for some great pennant bunting and artwork to spruce this room up a bit. I’ll post pictures as I make some progress.

My daughter can whip up a dazzling plastic-food dinner.

Start saving money for a really good camera.

I’m saving my pennies, people. Well see how this goes.

How are you doing on your New Year’s Resolutions?

Well this sounds familiar! We’re about to finish our attic renovation, my husband was doing it mostly himself. And I’m due in two weeks!

Baking bread and red lipstick! So easy and yet so essential. Way to inspire the rest of us to keep track of those important, beautiful little details of life. Cheers!

Do you loan your husband out? Maybe helping pregnant people finish stuff in their house could be this new “thing” that he does?

Wow, I am very impressed with your “progress con baby.” And it’s about time that I invest in that Preschooler book, too.
