. . . in the audience.
Had you there for a minute didn’t I?!?!? Apparently I confused a few of my friends too the day I went. Had to correct that quickly in my status update. But I did stop for a minute and imagine hearing Oprah yell:
Oh you just wait O. You will one day. And I’ll do something crazy fabulous one day. (but I’m not as agile as Tom and I don’t think I can jump on your couch like that). You can read more about why O and I are besties here.
It’s her farewell season and the clock was ticking on crossing that off my life list and I can now say “done and DONE!” and it was all that I thought it would be and a more. Now when I say it was all that I thought it would be – there were no gold robots or zebras as others might think. (as witnessed by this response to my tweet about seeing the show).
But what I was really looking at were the little things. The people you surround yourself with and the people that stick by you are a direct reflection of the quality of your leadership. You saw that quality in every single person that you encountered who were a part of Harpo Studios. From the security guy at the door, to the people who work the waiting room before the show, to the woman who warms up the audience before the show and the production team that’s running it all. You don’t make the kind of big world impact that Oprah has without being the real thing. And if you aren’t – it will seep out of the cracks of your organization and tell another story about you. Her story remains amazing.
Those of you who came to EVO this year got to hear from Andrea Wishom (@hydeparkmom) and Jon Sinclair (@jonnysinc) who both work for HARPO and I think you can all attest to how awesome they are. Down to earth, approachable, inspiring people. boom. 😀
As for the show! We were in the audience for the:
“OPRAH! MAKE OVER THIS COUPLE WITH CARSON KRESSLEY”
A word about Carson – his wit is so quick it’s amazing. Truly a funny, funny guy. Check out the show today and see if you can spot me! I’m in the middle section of the audience – middleish – maybe 4th row back of the general area. I’ll be able to better point you to a swath of my blonde bob after I actually see it for myself. I had excellent posture that day and am sitting up very straight – you know – just in case I have my big TV debut.
I’ll throw up another post after the show airs about my own “Behind the Scenes” moment pre-show. I’m still pinching myself that I got to catch a show while I was in Chicago.
I set out on a quest tonight to find an old Conan O’brien bit where he talked about Oprah having gold robots that would descend from the rafters saying “don’t touch O . . .!” and I came up with nothing! My husband and I died laughing over when we saw it years ago. But in my quest to find that, I found some wonderful clips that I lol’d all by myself to. You’re welcome!
