My BlogHer10 Top Ten List

What a crazy fun filled week in NYC (and hot and humid too)! For those of you scratching your head and asking what in the world BlogHer is – it’s a crazy blogging conference where 2,400 bloggers converged on NYC for parties, networking, and oh yeah . . . a couple of breakout sessions too.

The highlights in no particular order:

The Brands
I’ll start here. Why? Because – dude – there are so many. So so many to meet and talk to. The ones that stood out for me:

  • Jimmy Dean – it was the fact that they sent Mr. Sun from the commercials – and that they have pancake, sausage creations that look like corn dogs
  • My Little Pony – When was the last time you took a picture with a pony?
    1. {photo coming soon – can’t find it in my bag full of blogher goodies!} 🙂
  • Unilever – Their brands hosted an amazing party – but what I really paid attention to was how well they branded it from start to finish – just look at the water. Check it:

  • Yes, it’s the nerdiness in me that loves that they went so far as to match the flavors of water you were offered to their new product line.

  • University of Phoenix – another well branded moment. I took a quiz on an iPad that revealed to me my learning style. I was “solitary “ and “physical/kinesthetic “ (the older I get the more solitary I get apparently)
  • My results

  • The Parties: Oh the parties . . .I can’t even begin to work through the parties! That’s an entirely different post!

  • Breanne and the DJ

There is nothing more 13-year-old than daring your friend to go and dance behind the DJ when he can’t see you . . . and then peeing your pants in the corner about it. Cute little DJ man at the SparkleCorn party was too busy mixing the music with his little headphones on to know how many times Breanne went and threw the moves on right behind him.

I've received several comments on the "special" nature of my hand in this photo

    All the Single Ladies
lol – I think @huny said it best!

@formerlyphread threw down move for move of the Single Ladies dance. She was like Beyonce – only shorter . . . and white. Everyone went nuts! She admitted that she’s been practicing in the living room with her kids for months. She says she got her inspiration from this video:

    Nate Berkus Party

How cute is this man? I love when you meet people who you would assume would be unapproachable and they are so genuine and down to earth (and very cute to boot). I’m seriously excited to catch his show this season – and they’ve got some really great concepts they are working on. Watch for their “Curbside Pickup” segment where Nate picks the old things up from people’s houses and re-purposes them.

The really important thing about this pic - I didn't shoot it at an angle. That's just HOW TALL @jonnysinc is.

    Pink Berry with the Ladies
Seriously amazing yogurt. I didn’t order one for myself and ended up eating half of Allison’s!

Straight up with blueberries and "mochi" (or whatever you call those rice marshmallows)

Thanks @petit_elefant, @kamibigler, @jylmomif, @makeandtakes, and @tm_breanne for a fabulous night on the town! Can we all say that @kamibigler was so excited to be in NYC!

On our way to Time Square

    MOMA
I need to plan an entire trip back to NYC just to go to museums! I saw some amazing stuff in the MOMA, and some stuff that made me scratch my head. I thought I liked modern art – but have come to peace with the fact that about 50% of it is created by peeps who have some seriously pent up sexual issues. “no one knows what it means . . . but it’s provocative”

But really – if this right here is art – then my garage is open for display (and charging a substantial admission).

    Cabbies
We experienced an memorable selection of New York City’s finest taxi drivers.

    The Russian

  • Invited us to drink Vodka and Cognac with him at least 7 times. He also asked us if he could find a Mormon Church in Queens to find more ladies to drink with.
  • Every time he got angry at other drivers, he would yell “Bangladesh” and then carry on about how he hated people from Bangladesh. Apparently there are lots of drivers on the road from Bangladesh.
  • The HEP C Cabbie

  • This pleasant cabbie had a continual stream of coughing – like the hacking up a lung kind. I kept whispering “HEP C” to Breanne in the back seat . . . She finally got the strength to close the little plastic divider between us (because when I tried I couldn’t make it budge). He was also quite possibly the angriest of the drivers we had – dropping some entertaining strings of profanities at the city around every bend, including rage at the Dominican parade.
  • Celebrity Sitings

  • Bruce Jenner
  • I really don't have words

  • Rabid – Apparently he’s a big deal with the “gamer” set. But seriously – wtf.
  • Speaking of celebrities – the previously mentioned @formerlyphread captured some good shots, one of which included our very own Erica and Breanne all over the Jonas Brothers.

    Cupcake Shop in Hoboken
Jyl and Breanne brought some cupcakes back from Hoboken! There was a 2 hour line for the Cake Shop but apparently if you are a resident Hoboken you can cut to the front of the line anytime! (glad they had a native Hobokener with them)

    JFK
We missed our flight. Had to pay $700 to get out the next day. 3 words:

  • Delta
  • Extortion
  • Dominican Parade
  • We know affectionately refer to JFK as a 3rd world country. It’s so crazy in there that I half expected to see some chicken crates and farm animals roving around the check in. It’s like a twilight zone – and people lose their minds in there. Of course the day we left was the day when this guy bailed from the plane.

Great seeing all of you ladies at BlogHer this year! See you in San Diego!

And P.S. If this post wasn’t enough for you – I’m putting together a post with some of my favorite photos from BlogHer10 . . . stand by!

Dude, don't even get me STARTED on JFK and Delta. Our skycap needs to be put on time out.

      {insert angry feelings here}.

My Cambria Cove makeup bag is ruined because of that Mo Fo.

Dude, you're such an honorary Mormon it isn't funny.

I love that everyone calls us *My Mormons*. I'm glad we're endearing to people.

Snap! What happens in NYC…ends up on the internet? Wow, the experiences are too numerous to count. But you did a lovely job. Let us not forget your $42 dollar room service breakfast. Thank you very much Hilton. Talking about it makes me want to go back…Kami ya with me?

LOVE this Single Ladies rendition by the Dan Band. Wish we could've boogied on the stage together. : )

J-effing-K That place was insane! Erica sat on her flight for 4 hours before take off! Our final flight out broke down on the run way and I was about to lose it!

    16. Rachael 08/12/2010 at 3:21 pm

I want your commentary on those blinds!

    17. Carina 08/12/2010 at 3:16 pm

I'm offended that we didn't go to the MoMA together! OK, not really offended, since I went by myself and it was like going to worship.

Next time I'll go with you and I'll explain why things are important, who did what, and What It All Means. Art-Lecture-To-Go, that's me.

    18. Tauni 08/12/2010 at 2:11 pm

It looks like you had such a great time! Wish I would have run into you…

I thought I was going to miss my flight as well. JFK was a complete and total nightmare. Of course, perhaps the worst thing about it was that I did make my flight and ended up sitting on the run way for two hours next to a sneezer. Needless to say, I am typing this from my sick bed 🙂

    19. Savorthethyme 08/12/2010 at 1:48 pm

      You are AWESOME!!
