What was your big dream?
I think it was less a dream than a matter of unfinished business. I studied music intensively as a child and then abandoned it for nearly 10 full years. I eventually knew I had to return to it on my own terms and create the music I wanted to hear.

How did you accomplish it?
A lot of experimenting, a lot of humble pie, and a good measure of selfless support from other musicians. Not to mention my amazing family.

Where did you find inspiration to get started?
A musician friend of mine, who was terminally ill, asked me quite simply what I was waiting for. I think there are things in life that you have to explore, whether or not it’s comfortable for you. You can ignore it for a long time, but eventually you have to go straight in and find out what it’s trying to offer you.

What motivated you to keep going?
The sheer joy of making music with people I love and admire. There’s nothing in my world that compares to that particular feeling.

What’s your next Big Dream?
To find a way to balance being a mother, a partner and a musican. I think the biggest dream I could realize is being less restless, finding contentment in the way things are right now, and knowing that time, if you graciously accept it, is very good to life. I would also love to will that attitude to my son.

When you were 5 what did you want to be when you grew up?
An author.

What about when you were 15?
A poet.

Now, what do you want to be when you grow up?
A singer, a poet, a great partner and the best mom I can possibly be.

What book is on your night stand?
Saturday by Ian McEwan. (and Dr. Spock’s Baby and Childcare, a gift from my mom)

What’s your Guilty Pleasure? (Grey’s Anatomy, Peppermint Mocha Lattes)
Lots of time alone (generally a thing of the past these days) and my husband’s homemade chocolate chip cookie dough washed down with a nice glass of red wine

What song moves you?
An impossible question for a musician! But right now…Caminito De Zaza by Eliades Ochoa.
