A Fashionable Dream

Tired of working her tail off for a big corporation, Cheryl decided to follow her life-long dream and ventured out on her own and created
Cherella, an inspiring line of clothing for women.

Name
Cheryl Forrester

City / State
Salt Lake City, UT

What was your big dream?
To create a clothing line for women that was hip and inspirational, that mom’s could wear while transitioning from work to soccer, etc. Clothes that fit real women.

How did you accomplish it?
Four years ago I created Cherella USA, a women’s clothing line that creates inspirational wear for women of all ages. Everything from handbags to PJ’s. We now sell to over 350 boutiques nationwide.

Where did you find inspiration to get started?
I always dreamed of designing clothing and would sketch and sew as a little girl, but the idea came to me while working in radio. I figured if I could work this hard for someone else I could work for myself.

I was also tired of seeing the sloppy, uninspiring messages that were sprawled across t-shirts several years ago. So my clothing has inspirational themes throughout the line.

What motivated you to keep going?
There are so many days you feel like throwing in the towel, especially as mom’s (we have so much on our plate.) But like a gift from the angels, those days I felt down, I would inevitably see my product on a stranger and it gave me the courage to keep moving forward.

What’s your next Big Dream?
To be the best mother I can to my twin 8 year olds, as well as empower other women to follow their dreams. I recently became the director in Utah for a National Women’s networking group called, “Ladies Who Launch”. It is focused on movement and “incubating” your idea, business or project. You also meet like minded women to accomplish this goal. My goal is to grow the membership in Utah to be the largest of its kind in the Nation. We have so many talented, smart women in Utah, I would love to see them recognized on a national scale.

When you were 5 what did you want to be when you grew up?
A ballerina.

What about when you were 15?
A professional athlete.

Now, what do you want to be when you grow up?
Happy, surrounded by books and the gift of learning.

What book is on your night stand?
“Cutting the ties of Karma”, “Three cups of Tea”, by Greg Mortensen, and “Warped Passages” by Lisa Randall.

What’s your Guilty Pleasure? (Grey’s Anatomy, Peppermint Mocha Lattes)
A nice glass of wine at the end of a long week, and sleeping in.

What song moves you?
A friend of mine lost her two year old to a drowning, and at the funeral she played the song, “I want to thank you for giving me the best day of my life” by Dido. It was one of the saddest experiences I have witnessed, now when I hear that song I cry, but also am grateful as we are all so blessed to have this experience we call life.
