Q&A With Mary Hunt

Mary Hunt spent 30 years in the marketing industry selling “junk” to women. She is the author of In Women We Trust, a marketing-to-women handbook. Now Mary spends her time selling the importance of a sustainable earth to the female audience. By purchasing, promoting, and encouraging our elected officials to keep the green flame, women can help cool the global climate. Her goal is to help women think global yet act local. This month, Mary answers questions from TodaysMama.

Why politics/government?
Why indeed? Corporations now rule the world, follow the money. Global change means changing the way we think about power structures.

What is the issue that you think mothers can have the most affect on?
DEMAND CERTIFIED SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS. Look at what happened when moms took on toys with lead in the paint. If Moms demand products that have been certified as sustainable, then they will have products that are as organic as an organic apple. For example, the SMaRT Sustainable Standard gets rid of all the problems that are covered in the movie.

Controlling consumption is the ONE area that women dominate.

My husband. His sense of humor matches mine.

I try “rebooting” my day at noon -clearing off the computer and shutting my eyes until the thoughts go from many to one to none.

We fall in and out of love, but we don’t fall in and out of trust. When it’s gone, it’s gone and that includes products.
